Selfie vs Self-portrait

Below is the photo that I used for inspiration when creating a self-portrait. I personally like this image as it is being taken through glass and the person has a shadow behind her. This makes this image more dynamic and gives the viewers different perspectives to look at.
In my self-portrait, I attempted to recreate the one I used for inspiration. I took a wild shot and used a mirror instead of a glass. I made the room dark and used the flash from my phone camera. I really liked how it turned out as the flash added some lens flare making the picture more dynamic. The lines, circles, and random shapes that the flash created made this portrait more vivid. I tried to have a neutral tone to my face as did the lady in the previous image.

In my selfies, I wanted to go a little rogue. I really didn't have any idea of what to do so I added some filters on my images to make it more amusing. I used my dog in some images because I love my dog and he didn't complain about being in my images, unlike my brother.

Dancer Field Trip

On Tuesday, October 1st, we ventured out to The High Line in New York City with the IB dancers and the film making class.  We took several hundreds of pictures with the dancers in motion.  The dancers took different positions and made each image as unique as possible.  We changed the shutter speed of our camera to get the best possible images while the dancers were moving in the light.  In class, we learned about shutter priority (TV) and we had days where we would be getting ready for this trip.  Overall this trip was a success as we got many great pictures with the dancers.  I took over 370 photos and these are my 10 best pictures.

Vivian Maier Vivian Dorothy Maier was born on February 1, 1926. Vivian was the daughter of a French mother, Maria Jaussaud Justin, and an Austrian father, Charles Maier.  She grew up in New York, NY. She was an American street photographer whose work was not discovered and recognized until after her death. She worked for about forty years as a nanny, mostly in Chicago's North Shore, where she pursued photography on the side. In her lifetime, she took more than 150, 000 photos! During her lifetime, her photographs were unknown and unpublished and many of her negatives were never printed. Collectors found boxes of Maier's negatives and uploaded the images onto the internet. Since then, the photographs have been exhibited all over the world. Many of her photographs depict street scenes in Chicago and New York in the 1950s and 1960s. She died on April 21, 2009. Richard Avedon Richard Avedon was born on May 15, 1923. He was born in New York, NY to a Jewish family.

Weston Challenge

Weston Challenge Edward Weston was an American photographer who had many  subjects, including landscapes, still lives, nudes, portraits and much more.  He took photographs that sold for large sums of money and some included pictures of foods.  Westin was very good at creating multiple dynamics within a single photo by using off shaped fruits, or perfect vegetables.  In this assignment, we tried to follow Westin's footsteps by taking pictures of foods and making them the "hero" of the shot.  Here is a collection of four photos with three black and whites and one in color.  This assignment was fun as we could put fruits and vegetables in different scenarios.
