Vivian Maier Vivian Dorothy Maier was born on February 1, 1926. Vivian was the daughter of a French mother, Maria Jaussaud Justin, and an Austrian father, Charles Maier.  She grew up in New York, NY. She was an American street photographer whose work was not discovered and recognized until after her death. She worked for about forty years as a nanny, mostly in Chicago's North Shore, where she pursued photography on the side. In her lifetime, she took more than 150, 000 photos! During her lifetime, her photographs were unknown and unpublished and many of her negatives were never printed. Collectors found boxes of Maier's negatives and uploaded the images onto the internet. Since then, the photographs have been exhibited all over the world. Many of her photographs depict street scenes in Chicago and New York in the 1950s and 1960s. She died on April 21, 2009. The Un-Selfie

Image
Selfie vs Self-portrait Below is the photo that I used for inspiration when creating a self-portrait. I personally like this image as it is being taken through glass and the person has a shadow behind her. This makes this image more dynamic and gives the viewers different perspectives to look at. https://www.widewalls.ch/self-portrait-photography-photographers/ In my self-portrait, I attempted to recreate the one I used for inspiration. I took a wild shot and used a mirror instead of a glass. I made the room dark and used the flash from my phone camera. I really liked how it turned out as the flash added some lens flare making the picture more dynamic. The lines, circles, and random shapes that the flash created made this portrait more vivid. I tried to have a neutral tone to my face as did the lady in the previous image. In my selfies, I wanted to go a little rogue. I really didn't have any idea of what to do so I added some filters on my images to make it more amus

Portraits of Ordinary Objects

Image
Due to the coronavirus, photography class has gotten more challenging. We are stuck at home doing online classes and we do not have our cameras. Mr. Worrell came up with an alternative way to solve this dilemma. We now use our phones to take pictures! Whilst this is a challenge as I have an iPhone 6 (it's 6 years old), I still tried my best to take these photos. The goal of this assignment was to take portrait pictures but of ordinary objects instead of people. In this image, I have a calculator that has many lines graphed, and it is on top of a notebook with math notes written in it. The background is there to show more of the math theme if not demonstrated by the calculator. In this image, I used many compositional tools such as lines and form. In snapseed, I used vintage 9 to blur out the top section of the page as it added some contrast to the picture. I made the glow setting 27 to add an aura around the calculator. In this next image, I took a different approach. Inst

Photography: Chocolate Cake

In this photography unit, we had a recipe shoot where we would create food and record the process through images. Similar to a recipe book, we showed how the food is made through photos. The main goal of this shoot was to understand light and how much it impacts the quality of the photo. The overhead lights in a kitchen don't provide the best lighting so this was fixed through sunlight or natural light. For my final shots, I went outside to get the best lighting possible for the final product. Thankfully, it was a sunny day outside and it resulted in a good looking slideshow.

Poetry, "Makin' Jump Shots"

Image
Poetry Unit: In this photography unit, we set out to take pictures based on the poem of our choosing. We took pictures that directly related to the poem. I chose a poem about basketball and I took some pictures of it. I chose to focus on the journey of the ball with the player and with the shot. The ball carries the emotions of the game throughout each image which is what I really wanted to convey through these photos.

Weston Challenge

Image
Weston Challenge Edward Weston was an American photographer who had many  subjects, including landscapes, still lives, nudes, portraits and much more.  He took photographs that sold for large sums of money and some included pictures of foods.  Westin was very good at creating multiple dynamics within a single photo by using off shaped fruits, or perfect vegetables.  In this assignment, we tried to follow Westin's footsteps by taking pictures of foods and making them the "hero" of the shot.  Here is a collection of four photos with three black and whites and one in color.  This assignment was fun as we could put fruits and vegetables in different scenarios.

Day in my Life

Image
Day in my Life In this assignment, we were assigned to take photos of our day at school and at home.  This piece of narrative photography brought a new aspect to taking photography.  During school, I took photos going to and in my classes.  I took some photos of my friends and how we interacted outside of classes.  The next aspect of this project was a day in our life out of school.  During my winter break, I went to Italy so I took pictures of that instead of pictures at home.  Throughout the assignment, I made the pace of the video much faster and more in sync with the song to get a better narrative.  This was a very fun assignment and my video turned out to be really well.  These are some of the photographs in my video to show what a day in my life at school was like and what a day in my life out of school was like.
